Generate custom MetaHumans from a brief or a photo, directly inside Unreal Engine 5.7.4.
This page walks you through install, first generation, package contents and common issues.
v1.0-betaUE 5.7.4Windows 10/11Editor plugin
Public beta. AI character generation is powerful but not magic. Results vary across attempts, the pipeline keeps improving. Best treated as an accelerator for the base pass, not a replacement for the artist's final 20%. Send feedback to [email protected].
What it does
The plugin embeds ic.infinitepeople.ai as a Slate panel
inside the editor. From there you can:
Create a character from a text brief or a reference photo
Watch the generation pipeline run live (~7 minutes end to end)
Install the finished MetaHuman with one click into /Game/InfiniteCharacters/<id>/
Browse the public character library and download finished characters straight from the plugin
Confirm the plugin is enabled in Edit → Plugins (search "Infinite Characters")
Quick start
Open: Window → Infinite Characters
Sign in: click "Continue with Google" (a local browser will pop the OAuth flow on port 8080 — allow UnrealEditor.exe through Windows Firewall if prompted)
Create: write a brief and/or drop a reference photo, then press Bring to life
Wait: about 7 minutes — the progress panel shows the live pipeline state
Install: click Install in UE5 when the character is ready
Characters land in Content/InfiniteCharacters/<id>/, ready to drag into a level.
Package contents (per character)
Each generated character is delivered as a single ZIP (~120 MB) containing:
UE5 ASSETS
MH_Character.uasset (the MetaHuman blueprint) + textures imported into InfiniteCharacters/<id>/.
FACE TEXTURES 4K
T_Face_Bald.png (hairless variant) and T_Face_Groomed.png (with hair, brows, fine facial hair). 4096×4096.
PREVIEW RENDER
renders/representation.jpg — QHD face crop, JPEG q=92, ~350 KB.
GLB 3D MODEL
3dmodel/model.glb — GLTF binary export for Blender, Maya, Substance, Marmoset, etc.
INPUTS PRESERVED
inputs/portrait.jpg and the original prompt — for audit and regeneration.
METADATA
character_info.json (groom params, marketplace assets) and README.md per character.
Requirements
Unreal Engine 5.7.4 — strict requirement for the current beta
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) — uses PowerShell for ZIP extraction; Mac/Linux on the roadmap, not available yet
MetaHuman plugin enabled in your project (Edit → Plugins → MetaHuman)
Authentication fails or browser pop-up never returns
Make sure port 8080 isn't blocked by Windows Firewall
If Windows Firewall prompts, allow UnrealEditor.exe on both private and public networks
Check the Output Log (Window → Developer Tools → Output Log) for the OAuth callback URL
Import fails after generation completes
Verify disk space available (each character can take ~120 MB before import)
Check the Output Log for the precise error
Ensure PowerShell is available on your system (default on Windows 10/11)
Common cause: the project folder is read-only or sync'd with OneDrive/Dropbox; move it to a local non-sync'd folder
The character looks off / artifacts on the face
This is generative AI — variability is expected. Try a more specific brief or a higher-quality reference photo
For tricky details (small features, ethnic markings, subtle expressions), plan a manual refinement pass in MetaHuman Creator afterwards — the plugin output is a fully native MetaHuman, editable like any other
For artists, by artists
This plugin is designed to accelerate the early phases of character work — the
base modeling, the initial texturing, the rig setup — not to replace artistic judgement.
The best results come from combining the AI's speed on the base pass with your expertise on the
final 20% that defines the character.
Touch up textures in Photoshop or Substance to perfect details
Adjust proportions and features in MetaHuman Creator to match your vision
Fine-tune materials, shaders and skin properties
Add custom clothing, accessories, hairstyles that make the character truly yours
Generative AI — disclaimers
Infinite Characters creates original fictional characters inspired by the prompts
and images you provide. It is not a digital cloning tool: outputs are artistic
interpretations, not forensically-accurate likenesses. Same input may produce different output
across generations.
You remain solely responsible for the rights to any reference photo you upload.
The pipeline detects well-known faces and asks for appropriate consent before generation.
